Team Ideation Collabo Project As Reported By Ngozichukwu Uzoigwe

Building a Health App

INTRODUCTION

Team Ideation was one of the eleven teams that participated in the ‘wild fire’ collabo project, organized for all participants of the ADA Software Engineering Program as part of our learning curriculum. The idea was to expose us to teamwork, leadership skills, respect for team members, humility, patience and many other virtues; while engaging in building projects.

The industry focus for Team Ideation's work on a health app, which we termed "Menthealth" was Health-Tech. We developed the health app because we recognized a real need for people in Nigeria, between the ages of 18 and 60, who are looking for assistance with mental health issues; or to improve their mental well-being; to have access more easily to qualified doctors, consultants, and other health professionals; who can address these issues.

We wanted to develop a telehealth platform for mental health services that would enable people to communicate virtually with therapists and other mental health professionals because we recognized that there was a lack of qualified healthcare professionals who could provide appropriate guidance on how to address mental health issues.

WHAT THE APP DOES

The app showcases all of the services of Menthealth and then connects the various individuals seeking medical attention in mental health to the respective health professionals registered on the app.

The app has a sign-up and login page, which is the first thing patients see. Once they sign up, their data is saved for future easy access from any part of the globe; and then can be made available to the corresponding health professional they intend to see.

Once the registered patient signs in, the list of services is made available to him/her, and she can then select the service which is applicable, and the corresponding health professional.

The idea also is to avoid the patients spending a lot of waiting time at the hospital before being attended to. So yes, it serves locally for Nigerian citizens for now.

MY CONTRIBUTION

I created the GitHub repo for the app for the team, though it was managed eventually by another member of the team.

HOW I CONTRIBUTED

I created the repo from my GitHub account, then sent out the collaboration invites to all members of the team. I notified them all of the need to go through their emails and accept the invite which they did. Then the other team member took it from there.

SOMETHING IMPORTANT I LEARNT

I learned to be readily available for any task I could take up for the team, as well as resolving conflicts; as there was some tension and friction between some team members at times.

CONCLUSION

As I was able to learn some major aspects of relating with different types of people in this collabo project, I believe it to be very wise that this kind of collabo project are promoted; as you never know how far you can go until you actually start the journey.

A lot went into this project and continues. It was a great project and I am thankful to have been a part of it as much as I could.
